This may sound stupid, but how do you fit the mirrors onto the door hinge pin, can't work it out as the cap is solid unlike later ones which a plastic cap? Mines a 62 :?:

Hi,
If you don't already have them, you need to replace the top hinge pin on the door you want the mirror, with a pin with a threaded head to screw the mirror on to.

Pootle,

Additional information: If you are not comfortable replacing the hinge pin yourself then you should really consider having a professional replace it. It is easy to do damage to the body of the car if you do not use caution.

I have replaced the upper hinge pins on both of my 1966 beetles, one drivers side and two passenger sides. I felt comfortable performing the job myself so I did it using standard garage tools which consisted of a hammer, a one quarter inch round punch, cardboard and a can of penetrating catalyst.

Hope this additional information helps,
Larry
