Evening all,

Just wondered whether anyone could recommend someone in the UK to align bore my 1955 (year) 36HP crankcase, which is on the wrong side of tolerance limits? I've tried Bears and Stateside Tuning but no joy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

John Maher? Not sure if he's still doing engine rebuilds? Maybe a bit far from you though!
Or Laurie Petit?
The Engine Shop in Kent?

Having said that, I've not used any of those guys, they were just the first ones to come into my head!

John is still very much doing engine rebuilds and being on the Isle of Harris is not a problem as all his work is regularly shipped in/out by Parcel Force on a pallet.

Not sure if he handles sewing machine engines though.

JMR 100% vouch for the guy.
He sells engines to California, ice cream to eskimos or what!!
Probably only cost you about £25 to get your engine case up there.
I sent a full transaxel strapped to a pallet from North Wales to London for £50.

Ha Ha Martin,he built me a beautiful 25hp unit when he was in Manchester.

have you never been racing before?

Doesn't matter who built it, shit happens. Lets just hope its not another victim of the top end roll over that beetles are known for... (although thats more of a swing axle thing)

TBH it's a nice idea, to see what time I could get out of it...but that's probably all it will stay...an idea as the risks are not worth potential pain

This is the worry. Stateside Tuning and Bears have already told me the same thing. Apparently there isn't the demand for the service anymore to warrant keeping the tooling setup.

I'll try the other contacts from this thread and let you know how I get on.

BBT Belgium will surely do it.
And if you make prior arrangements, you can pick up and drop off in Birmingham,London or Brighton.

Yes BBT definately do that job. £300 was the last figure I heard quoted.
