The original is in the Porsche Museum (at least sometimes). He was a local lad (to me!).

The original Strähle - Beetle was sold in the late 1950s - nobody knows if and where it exist. It was based on a 1948 CCG-beetle. A few years ago, Paul Ernst Strähle rebuild his car, based on a 1951 Split. This is the car you have seen in exibition of the Porsche Museum.

Paul Ernst Strähle passed away after a short illness last autum. His replika-car still exist in the family together with some other nice racingcars.

Christian's car is not a Replica of the Strähle-car, but in reason that Paul-Ernst and his son, he got a lot of knowledge about the original car - inclusive some nice details which are realized again in his own car.

The car belongs to the Grundmann since 1981 - and was a long time the daily driver of the family.

The original was Porsche powered yes.

The Porsche engine (1300 cc) had a power of 65 bhp which combined with weight of just 650 kg, allowed a speed of 160 km/h

I was thinking about how much it would cost and the issues of installing a 356 engine but no doubt you could boost the power of a VW unit to 65hp for significantly less !

Tuning a 30hp motor is not cheap.
