Just found this in my Irish oval engine parts box...

Aparently its the same as the VE 4 BRS 383 but had a rotor arm with a resister for radio noise suppression?

Is this true?

If so, were they only fitted to cars with radios?

I can only find one internet mention of this model

You are eaxactly right about the R in the code being for a resistor but doubt it was for radio suppression. The resistor was to drop the voltage to prevent burning of the points and help the life of the coil.In fact you can solder a strip over the resistor if either they failed and also to give a better spark to fudge any starting problems.Radio supression is generally done using a capacitor to filter out electrical noise from the generator but open to the theory that the resistor would limit sparking in the cap.

Hello

Thanks of for the reply.

Yes the suppression thing makes sense.

Did a 6v really have enough spark to need to reduce the voltage?

Any Idea what they were fitted to or why? as in why some and not others?

Seems a stange idea! :d

Cheers
