Been offered a very early (first month of production) zwitter, just wondered what the going rate for it would be?

it is rust free and don't believe that it has been welded (just the way i like it, will look at it this week, however it has got to be fairly rare being solid. it doesn't have wings though.

However i do know of a 1951 reag top, in the same condition going for £2500, but the Zwitter is £1000 and at least oval spares are eaier to find.

I have a spare balanced 40hp engine to go in it (at the moment), so that isn't too bad. Yep i know it is not correct. but will get it running.  15963.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

Andy, price doesn't seem over the top.Zwitters are great little cars.
But you haven't taken into consideration the £10,000 you will want to spend on accessories.

I may brake the mould with this one and do it exactly how it came out the factory.

Think that it maybe a good start for a restoration though, not really up for a basket case that needs a lot of welding.

Don't forget though. Zwitter only parts are very hard to find and very expensive when you do!

Hi, my 1949 shell cost about £1500 the originalchassis from the car (bought from a second person) was £600 and its cost me another £400 to get the chassis to a "rolling state" so id say £1000 for this zwitter is great. Id be tempted my self if i had the space and money, and the misses let me.

ps my shell was revealed to be almost 100% rust free after a light sand blasting!! so providing yours is rust free as you say your definatly on to wa winner.

good luck either way. regards lee

saw the car today, and good point are:-

It's super solid in the 1/4 panels, og heater channels with small heater outlets, pan etc. It has OG doors with small oil holes. It still has 4 bolt brake backing plates, but slaves are gone, the petrol tank is there, The 1/4 light windows are correct early 50s, has most the big logo glass. Split case tranny, ash tray is there.

Bad:-
It has taken a whack on the roof from a falling tree, just behind the passenger side door, and the interior panel near the interior light has been bent down at some poing to try and fix it.
It has no front seats and a lot of the Zwitter only parts are missing.
H valence is later, and it will need a new front valence as it has had a small whack.
The bolt on panels front and rear wings, bonet, semi w lid. are all incorrect, but late 50s

It doen't have steering column/wheel, or any lights, window regulators etc.

What do you think?

I'm thinking that although it is a good car, i could afford to get a more complete car, and the cost of sorting these issues out, plus what is missing, that might be money better spent.

I cant think there is a good enough 60's beetle to swap with the 53?! If there was it would be far too good to be daily driven?

I always liked this zwitter.

😶

Thats the problem with the low price of beetles at the moment!
RHD, low mile, original paint. What a shame!

Much as how I think they are generally a good friendly bunch, I dont care if the restoboys hate me for it.

Our seablue 64 for sale is LHD and though completely original ( and with a nicer Swedish spec cloth interior) its not as nice as this, but we have deflected prospective buyers who want to daily drive it. We'll keep it until it finds the right caring home thanks!
