Hello.

I recently change the oil on a standard 1500 engine. The first copper seal on the oil sump plug went on funny so had to replace it immediately. This one went on better but leaked; so I replaced it with a similar one (metal but not copper, from a clutch fitting set for a different car) which also leaked. I have just fitted a new magnetic plug with a rubber/cork seal but this one leaks as well.

Fifth time lucky? There must be something I am missing or doing wrong?

Alternatively on my other engine, I have a sump plate without a sump drain plug. Does anyone know where I could get one of these?

Thanks for any help.

p.s. if anyone wants instructions to build your own tilt and wind proof, easily transportable leak catcher out of a cardboard box and an old lemonade bottle just say 🙂 .

later i think after 74 came with a sump plate without central drain hole, pain in the ass to change oil though without making a mess. drain plug shouldn't leak, maybe you have a dodgy thread. can try some sealant on the threads, but don't overtighten or you'll strip the threads. Can also weld a piece of metal over the circular sump plate if removed but thats getting a bit desperate.
