I need part numbers for some gearbox components and wondered if anybody here could help. The gearbox serial number is AM3709430, I'm not certain but I think it may be a '67 gearbox.

The diagram below isn't necessarily correct for the gearbox in question but it helps me illustrate the items I'm interested in.

As a reference point, arrow/item (1) should (I hope) be pointing to the 4th gear. It might be pointing at a different gear but in any event, it's the 4th gear components I'm interested in here.

The items I need part numbers for are:
(2) 4th gear needle roller bearing (just the rollers/cage).
(3) 4th gear synchro.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

I met a very helpful chap at Vanfest who specialises in watercooled VW gearboxes. He has a good supplier base in the US and has offered to try to source these parts if I can provide him with VW part numbers. At the end of the day I don't care where they come from... if anyone else has any suggestions where I can get these then I'm all ears! :d  gearboxdiagram.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

Many thanks for going to all that trouble...

That diagram shows a bush (item 27) where mine is definitely a needle roller (part of item 51 in my original post).

I think the serial numbers covered by that parts manual are earlier than mine. That manual covers up to 3-192-506 and mine is 3-709-430.

Presumably there's no online scanned library for these early VW parts books?

A28 is listed as Needle bearing (3rd gear) main drive shaft: 113 311 325B

It lists number 38 as the needle bearing (4th gear) main drive shaft: 113 311 325B (same part number) but I don't see 38 on the drawing.

Belated apologies and sincere thanks for all the help and trouble you went to assisting me with this, Rob.

It appears that I inadvertently misled us both... this gearbox is a 1970-1973 unit. What got me was the fact this [collection-of-interesting-VW-parts] Beetle is on a '67 chassis. Obvious with hindsight but it never occurred to me that a much later gearbox would fit or have been fitted. Those clever Germans thought of everything! :)

As for the solution to the original parts problem... well, it looks like the parts I need can come from my "jumping-out-of-4th-gear" 60's swing-axle scrap gearbox. I'll confirm or deny this 100% in the next few days with any luck!
