Well we are now between the big once-in-a-few-years sporting events, Germany has secured the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games are yet to begin. We are now in the 'silly season', though all we are hearing of are tragic events.
Rattletrap is of course down that his adopted country England have not done well in the World Cup. But he is well impressed by his country of birth - Germany's result!

He's wishing them the best of luck in this Sunday's final.

So what have you bought, John? Spill the beans.

A photo or two wouldn't go amiss either 🙂

That and the hot weather has got Rattletrap in a bit of a lather.

Just what do the DVLA require if you import a vintage vehicle from within Europe? Is the list below correct:?:

1) The registration book from country of origin.

2) A letter from a recognised UK car club such as the Historic Volkswagen Club stating year of build as known from the chassis number.

3) A bill of sale from the seller.

4) A UK MOT pass certificate, even if the car is pre 1960.

From what I've read elsewhere I'd rather not apply to VW for a birth certificate if by having all the above I don't need it.

The country of origin's registration document alone should be enough for the DVLA requirements.

You don't need a year of manufacture certificate from VW or a car club letter stating chassis number year.

Had to have a move around of things last week, so Rattletrap had to come out of the dark garage and into the 30 degree London sun.

Thought if only fair to protect the old fella from sun-burn:

Rattletrap back outside and now within the public gaze for a short while.

No problem though, wrap him up from their view and also so that the motoring press paparazzi won't spot him like they do with their 'wrapped car seen, but we know what it is' scoop.

The shape may still be the giveaway, but if not that well-known number plate peeking out blows his cover...

Here's Rattletrap yesterday enjoying the late summer sun standing next to sister car, my rather ratty 1958 Beetle, Rattytrap. If Rattytrap looks as though she's just been pulled out of bushes after a long period, that's because she has.

Here's the back of my ratty '58.

Being a '58, she doesn't have the split-window 'face' so she couldn't be. But she certainly has character and wonderful patina.

Here's something found by the guy that has been digging through Rattletrap's history.

We are aware of American Albert Klein's high mileage 1964 Beetle, but I for one was not aware at all of this car, a 1959 Beetle.:?

The vehicle historian thinks that this letter sent to VWoA in 1968 and reproduced exacty as seen here by Volkswagen as an advert (see advert details at the very bottom) the same year, was indeed the spark that sent Tony Levy onto his record mileage Volkswagen spree regarding his Beetle 10BXK (Rattletrap). It seems that Tony's claims regarding 10BXK began that same year.

Anyone recall this '59:?:
