Had a rather odd thing happen with
Rattletrap yesterday - the front n/s wheel came off. I was driving just from my house and along to a private track around the back and it was very sudden. I was still in second gear and 'clunk, clunk, clunk'. I was aware what was happening but had to continue a few yards to a clear area but didn't quite make it - thud! And I was left blocking the track.
All but one of the drum wheel bolt holes had stripped their thread, leaving it on the wheel nuts which were rolling around inside the hub cap. A bent back plate too.
How can this happen? Yes, I do my wheel nuts up tight, but only with a wheel brace, not with an extension bar. Infact when I've had that drum off to work on the brakes or bearings I've removed the wheel with drum attached??
