Nah mate, 57's are rubbish!

Just watched your youtube video of the first fire up with envy.... fingers crossed mine fires up and runs!

Don't suppose you've got, or could take a picture of your ignition switch could you?

I'm trying to get a replacement for mine and I;m getting conflicting informatin about long and short arm versions (whatever that means).

Here's a couple of pics of different types I've been offered but i could do with knowing which one is correct, assuming yours is OG?

Yes indeed... the guy who has one for sale is telling me it's the wrong one and won't fit, yet it is clearly like yours and the top on in my pictures.

Oh well, I think I'll buy it anyway as it's clearly the correect one.

One last question, and sorry for hijacking your thread so early on, but would it be possible for you to measure the diameter of the hole in your dash where the key barrl protrudes, as I want to see if mine has been opened out at all to make room for the aftermarket switch it had.

Many thanks!

18mm Andrew, I don't mind the hijacking at all, I will probably need loads of info myself when the rebuild begins.

An update is required me thinks, I am currently working my way round the shell concentrating on the front first, I first knocked myself up some intergrips these are used to hold 2 thin sheets together with a small gap to enable a seam weld, easily made up of the following

The arches and firewall before

Rot cut out

I had various replacement panels available, these came with the bug so I used these for the arches, leaving as much original metal as possible, after welding and filled these are rust treated then galv sprayed then primed.

Door pillar repairs next, both sides had gone with the drivers side worse than the passenger side, I got one drivers side repair piece which I didn't need to use all of it so the bit I cut off I flipped over and used on the passenger side 1 repair pillar did both sides done.

History is 2 owners from new its an original RHD UK registered bug in original L324 polar silver and 72a red interior. Found in a barn in Scotland approx 2 years ago , It had been stored there since 1974.Engine with 90000 mile on the clock. Having said that the floor and heater channels are left on the barn floor and the red interior needs full replacement.

Wish me luck I will need it :D
and be prepared for loads of questions

Its been a while since an update because we have moved house twice in the last 12 months anyway a quick pic update.

In the old place
UserPostedImage

I had to drop the body back on the chassis really before it should have been but needs must because of the house moves.
UserPostedImage

I got a bit of paint on the bits that will be hard to coat later (couldn't wait really to see what the polar silver match was like, anyway well pleased).
UserPostedImage

My favourite pic of the move from storage to the new place.

I have done a bit since so I'll keep em coming
