Peter is not taking on any more work until the Autumn.

ever seen a starter with an end like this?

how the heck is that meant to fit into the bushing.....odd :shock:

ive emailed the pics to peter goods to see what he thinks too.

Got an email from peter. According to him it's a 6v starter with 12v pinion gear made for the one year only 67 model year. Made not at vw or Bosch, but a small factory up the road from the factory that supplied vw.

I still don't understand how the short shaft is supported in the brass bush though :?

Is that a circlip on the end of the shaft ???? Have you got one to compare it to and have you a photo of the other end of the motor ?

got a reply from peter, these starters are as rare as rocking horse shit!

they are self supporting, so dont need a bronze bush! amazing huh :thumbup:

gonna give the internals a clean and then refit.
