hi all
I've started stripping my sons 65 bug to repair the various bits of rot.
it needs heater channels, door post bottoms, front clip, under rear window and the front firewall lower section.
floors are good (certainly pre media blasting anyway....)

question is where to get the panels from?
I've bought the A pillar bottoms from hookys and steve recommends klassic fab but they're mighty expensive and not currently available from C&C.

can anyone recommend anywhere else?
cheers

Klassic Fab are certainly the best for heater channels, although they're not cheap. But they are a great fit- Lost64 on here bought a pair and was very happy with them.

Try these sources for other good quality panels:-

https://restorationpanels.com/Home.php , although he tends to concentrate on Split & Oval parts

https://www.vwheritage.com/

Cheers,

A friend of mine is in the same situation with his 63. He has asked around and got different answers from different people so in the end he's gone to V W Heritage and spent a thick wad of cash with them. What they are like I don't know as he was just going round and round in circles with what he was being told. I will like to know what the bloke that's fitting them thinks as time goes on.

As Vintage Bug said, I used a pair of Klassic Fab heater channels on my Oval, and they were a superb fit. They're much heavier than the standard repro units. I'm not sure if they make heater channels to fit your '65, but if they do, it might be worth your while ordering them directly from the manufacturer. There's also a firm in Holland, (Evam Classics) who are an agent for Klassic Fab, and their service is pretty good.

Klassic Fab also do the lower bulkhead repair section, but again it's worth checking to see if they do one suitable for your car. Have a look on some of the VW websites as 'body cuts' come up for sale, and as original panels, they're sure to fit. Just make sure you have them thoroughly blasted first.

Autocraft Engineering do pretty good panels too, but in the end you pays your money, and you takes your choice!

Good luck!

Gavin.

I`m in the middle of rebuilding my big window 64 and I can tell you that if you are doing an accurate restoration then its very difficult to get the right shaped panels/sections. I`m finding that getting body cuts from the states off The Samba is difficult and expensive, as soon as you mention you are from the UK then the line of communication goes cold!
I`m making my own various sections but its a long process. Rear luggage section I made.
