Late engine into 56 oval · International Vintage Volkswagen Forums

Hello. could anybody give me some advise, i want to fit a 1600 twinport engine into my 56 oval, i already have a 34hp flywheel just wondered what other problems i may come across when trying to fit a later engine.

A friend of mine has a 2.1 litre engine in his '57 and i don't think he had too much trouble getting it in.

It's a bit tight around the rocker covers but I don't think he had to cut anything to get it in. 😃

How strong are the stock split case gearboxes? would they take the extra power of the 1600 twinport engine?
