You'll see this coming in the dark!!

I was amazed at the quality of the metal on my 49, not like that russian steel that they used to make the camper. Ive got at least 2 months worth of pannel beating on the shell, i could get away with it, but i want it to be perfect!

1949 is a Beetle worth restoring for sure.

This car, a DeLuxe, looks like it has hydraulic brakes? I notice a hole at the front possibly for a brake fluid reservoir.

My 1949 DeLuxe has cable brakes. Has yours been converted or is it cable too :?:

No this is actually a standard not a deluxe, the trim holes in the side must have been put on by an owner? I keep meaning to weld them up, but im always too busy.

It does have cable brakes, i think maby in the past it may have had juice brakes added? the hole at the front, correct me if im wrong should have a cover plate on it, i assume this is an access point for servicing the front beam area?

Looks very solid to me. Looks like it'll be a great car if you get all the details correct..

Great Lee. Standards are more interesting, well to me anyway.

You will need to get rid of the seat rails though, as the Standard's front seats were bolted straight to the floor with wing nuts

where did you find that, i spent ages on that web site, oh well like i said i can use a spanner but not the computer. thanks for that now ive just got to find someone whos machines can read the formula!

FINISHED BY XMAS! Well maby not. Dont for get i still have to sort my m8s camper, as id like to get if finisshed soon as a kind of xmas present. I have also sandblasted the mk1 (as you can just see in the pics) and i want to have it running and sold by january!

As for the 49, well id like to think it will move under its own power by july 2007. The misses wants to go to the Maldives again next year so i wont have any money left to spend if its not done before then!

Do you know where i can get a decent shrinking hammer, i thought machine mart would do one, but no! As any proffesional bodyworker
would tell you, using filler is cheating and should only be a last resort. i need a decent shrinker to get that engine lid straight!

Yes thank you for imforming me about the seats. I also need to sort out the battery mounts.

Try Frost for a shrinking hammer (although I've heard metal workers say that they don't really work)

https://www.frost.co.uk

These are supposed to work great though:

https://allshops.org

I've not used either though...

Thats different! I think ill have a go at making one myself, Got to be worth a go, as the basic disk is $50 plus postage.

Does anyone have the dimensions of a split battery tray area, or a good photo so i can fabricate up some mounts. as i cant find much info on this. thanks.

The battery is held down by two clips, which attach to the battery cover and are hooked onto two springs which connect to brackets welded to the floor.

https://www.zarwerks.com/  sell reproductions of all the bits you need apart from the cover.
