Hi once again my lack of familarity with my 49 has beaten me again!?

Im just about to install the gearbox, i have been flicking through a 54 service manual i have and also looked at the vw heritage catalogue. Obviously i need a front nose cone mount, but the item shown in the catalogue would not seem to have anything to do with what i have?

Forgive my description- my chassis has a hole (about 3.5" diameter) for the 'nose rod/selector' to go through. On the outside of this hole is an oval lip about 3/4" proud of the chassis with two bolt holes (running parallel to the torsion bar)

The small rubber 'mount' that wraps around the nose cone obviously locates itself inside the hole in the chassis.

From what i can work out i need a flat plate with a center hole to hold the rubber into the chassis' thus providing the 'front mount'? My 54 book shows a very small picture, but does not talk about it. Is this correct or am i completely of target here?

The front mount i have seen in the heritage catalogue looks like it bolts to the chassis with two studs also to fix to the g/box? But i cant see how this would fit to my box and chassis?

Please help very confused?
