Hi All

here's my'ginger'!! 😃 1956 Oval Convertible project.

came as a shell with the original hoodframe

as you can see it needs a bit of sand down, but it is only surface, was paint stripped and left in the elements by a previous owner! and is one of the most solid bugs i have seen in 20 years of bugging!...heater channels strenghtheners, rear h valance and inner wings are all solid!..
needs some minimal welding and panel reparwork but nothing drastic!

unfortunately lost its original pan, but i have a semi restored 62 pre suffix reg pan to put it on, and an original 30 horse 56 engine to fit.

anyway watch this space for progress pics!

also here's the rear quarter, which has been butchered by someone previously, i guess in order repair the creases and 'holes' in the rear quarter, caused apparently by buckshot when it was used for target practice while in the states!

UserPostedImage

but i have a complete rear quarter to replace it with!.(thanks VWRobert!)

one thing, I would remove these ! you will be surprised how it looks underneath, probebly surface rust, but if your car is painted these are the spots where it start showing rust after a few years !

Nice work

Just one thing / question:-

The floorpan is RHD but has a LHD dash. Are you going to put a new dash in and convert it or do you have a LHD floorpan for it ?

Just being curious, (nosey  )

Hi

i did have a RHD oval dash...but decided to keep it as original as i can LHD, so i'm modifying the pan to LHD...much easier than a dash cut too! 😃

As far as a fifty goes the floor pan is no different, don't know too much about those modern cars 'tho. But i think you wiil find Guido's chassis will be ideal.

That makes no difference for a cabrio out of 1956! 😳 😳
Chassisnumbers with the digits 15 in front are only used starting 1965!!!
So you must have a 6 digit chassis!
