How many should a `58 Cabrio have and where?

Mine has definitely lost the strip around the back (at least, judging by the exposed nails), the one above the rear window is hanging on still, but should I also have one at the front, above my screen?

Thanks!

The WW's ones are crap. They are not finished correctly. You need to grind the corners, etc, and the finish sucks. Unfortunately, the real ones are next to impossible to find. I was lucky enough to have two of the three originals when I got my 55. Took me 2 years to find the last piece in nice condition.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll end up with WW ones anyway, since there isn't much choice. As long as they don't drop off and they look something like the real deal, then they'll have to do!

cheers

Thread from the dead...

I'm sure somebody started remaking these roof strips as nice chromed brass items, as per original. Anybody know who it was? Can't seem to find them on google.

Also i'm sure I remember reading about spot on repro heater channel strengtheners too, but can't find them either! Anyone help me out?

Hi James,

The cabrio roof strips are made by Chuck at Chuck's Convertible Parts. Here:-

https://www.chucksconvertibleparts.com/products/header-bow-deco-chrome

https://www.chucksconvertibleparts.com/products/chrome-brass-trim-1

Does this mean you're renewing your hood, or are you just putting new strips on?

I don't know who does the sill strengtheners you want. I think mine came from BBT, but I don't remember exactly.

I´m doing neither as yet Dave, but some welding is definitely in the pipeline and I may just start buying odds and ends like this before they go out of production for another decade. Sold my sunroof car (sadly), so I have a few quid to spend on the Kabrio.

Still not sure if a `58 should have the front chrome strip on the roof or not. I read conflicting reports.

Not heard of 'Volksmeister' Rob, but they look like nice panels. Wish he had some better pictures posted. Are they what you used, or have you seen any in the flesh? They certainly seem to have a better shape than the ususal repro panels I´ve seen.

I believe this book does have some errors in it, but that's two sources that say it's fitted on a '58.
