Its spring at last and a long Easter weekend is almost here.

Time to remember that vintage VWs should be fun and not just about long winter days in the cold garage, empty wallets, skinned knuckles, blood sweat and tears.

The angle (or rake as VW calls it) of Rattletrap's front seat bases seem a little steep at the front and is a bit uncomfortable under the legs above the knees.

What was the year that VW altered the steepness of the seat runners? I thought it was August 1955 along with the various other changes:?

Went to move Rattletrap from his winter hibernation over the weekend. Put a battery on and... nothing. No starter turn, no lights, semis or anything electrical. Crawled around Rattletrap as best I could as he's in a rather inaccessible place, but my head gave the dizziness and headaches again and put a stop to me. Battery is new and in excellent condition.

All behind the dash seems okay. Shall have another go in the next day or so to find what's wrong.:? 😞

At any rate the wiring loom is destroyed and the burning smell lingers in and around the car which is left on his driveway gently rusting up.

He'd rather I didn't post this, but as the subject of electricals has been aired here, I think people should be aware of how quick and easy your pride and joy could be destroyed.

Has anyone seen these bonnet mounted Beetle mirrors before:?:

This one here I have put onto Rattletrap has had a repair as can be seen in the picture, but it is a much needed addition on a left hand drive split-window-Beetle without flashing indicators, and no holes needed drilled into the car.

A 1944 KdF Wagen for sale!! Time to trade Rattletrap in:smile:

Er on second thoughts no. This KdF seems to have even less left than the VW38 when found. Its in Spain, unusual to turn up there:?

Had a rather odd thing happen with Rattletrap yesterday - the front n/s wheel came off. I was driving just from my house and along to a private track around the back and it was very sudden. I was still in second gear and 'clunk, clunk, clunk'. I was aware what was happening but had to continue a few yards to a clear area but didn't quite make it - thud! And I was left blocking the track.

All but one of the drum wheel bolt holes had stripped their thread, leaving it on the wheel nuts which were rolling around inside the hub cap. A bent back plate too.

How can this happen? Yes, I do my wheel nuts up tight, but only with a wheel brace, not with an extension bar. Infact when I've had that drum off to work on the brakes or bearings I've removed the wheel with drum attached??
