Does anyone know the purpose of this strange windscreen design, and why there is only one wiper on what appears to be a KdF:?

Due to shortage of supplys of materials after the war... they used one wiper, smaller window, welded roof sections out of mutliple smaller sheets, and Kubel front lights in beetle front wings...
