Hello KS,
Have you come across any others in your travels?

How many do you reckon there are around these days?

The price Bob was asking for his seemed quite low given their rarety, but I guess they're not that popular! 😃

Isn't the internet a wonderful place. I'm sure there must be some Paplers around that haven't made it into hyperspace!

What you have to remember is that when Bob and I wrote that book (written 1992/93!), there was no Internet as we know it, no vintage VW websites etc. It is inevitable that any such book will coax 'new' cars to come out of the woodwork! That has to be good, yes?

maybe some of these Paplers have come out like that

Well , Due to that book I learned a whole lot more than just Karmann and Hebmullers.

With the Zelensis story i was familiar because late 80's I was once at Raoul's place to check out that car.
It was a bit of a disapointment to me because he not even owned one of his own creations.
As for this moment he owns 2 cars and some nice old-time pictures

My guess that if KS and BS want to make a second version of that book
( hey , what a hint) , they need a whole lot more of paper to print it.
Guess there is more info now then in the old day's.

Someday , you will know more about the zelensis story...
Greetings .

Hello from an other newcomer from Germany.

Just wanted to say that I have some pictures from a police photographer from the 50s with some very nice Paplers.....

...if you want me to and if I find them (just moved to a new house, didn't open every box yet), I could scan and post them...

Have a great weekend!

Ah ha!

"Destroyed" meaning "easily put back to original in a weekend then?"

Looks like a really nice restoration aside from the wheels. The only ones of these I ever see have been a bit ropey looking.

I have finally found the pictures I received from a police photographer a couple of years ago - I should manage to put them online within the next few days....

Let me then also show you some more interesting pics of a police mercedes 170V, a pre 53 beetle and a gorgeos Porsche 356 police Cabriolet.....

Funny enough - I cannot see any resemblance to a papler or austro yet from the pics. the back doors are rounder, the front door different and the metal parts of the cabriolet roof sit lower, just between the rear door handle and the fender.....hm, strange.

I finally managed to scan the Pictures.

May I ask to not spread them without asking, it took quite some time to find them, a lot of telephone calls and visiting and asking.

Have fun!

Daniel
