Can anyone recommend a spray paint in aerosol for painting the tinware? I know that if it was being done to the original in every way you would get the right coded paint, but there must be a cheaper alternative? Are there any tips on getting the best results?

I've used plasti-kote in a spray can before with really good results, you can buy cans in DIY stores - its an enamel so it has a higher heat tolerance than acrylics you buy in Halfords
