I didn't even recognise you as being in the picture Blushing Just goes to show how long it as been since I last saw you RollEyes Have to rectify that sometime, why don't you come back to God's country sometime and visit some old friends ?

A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.

The LMS reg on the oval was the subject of several features and think it may have been on the TV programme Thats life in the 80s .

That was my ad for 54CLD!

I sold the car and it changed hands several time before being finished.
It was exhibited at the Volksworld show a while back and managed to have a chat with the owner to tell him some of it's history.

It's now black but still modified as far as I know. BigGrin

Another thread about this car

I wonder if there's a way for Rob to retrieve the pictures from the ad here on Pre67?

We need a contact on the "inside" at the DVLA (step forward Robin Allen?). But I hear even the Police have to ensure they have supporting data when asking about a car's details.....

In the Netherlands you can pay the RDW (DVLA) and then they send your request to the registered owner. It is up to him/her to reply to the request.

I was contacted once in this way because the new owners of a farm where I had a Beetle stored wanted to track me down. Luckily they could through Big Brother otherwise the Beetle might have been scrapped. . .

Did you check with the DVLA is they provide such a service?

The DVLA will only release information about the current registered keeper if you have a legitimate reason such as the vehicle has been involved in an accident or illegally parked.

Hello there! That'll be me who took the photo of OSK722 in 2000.

I was on my way up the A19 to see my girlfriend on a Friday afternoon and stopped off at a VW specialist/workshop in Thirsk, just off the A19 (Adrian's VWs or something like that). I was after some camper parts for a camper I was restoring. The workshop was closed, but standing outside was OSK722 with the For Sale sign in the window. I remember thinking- very nice, fairly original car- shame it's lost it's original number plate.

Sorry, but that's all I know. I think I took another couple of pics, so I will try and dig them out for you. Can you please post some pics of the car as it is now.
47 Beetle, 56 UK Karmann Cabriolet, 56 UK Beetle, 57 UK Type 2, 59 UK Beetle, 66 UK Fastback.

Because 'OSK' is a typical non age related sequence of letters issued by the DVLA when a car is reregistered following the sale of the original plate.

Could also have been issued if the original number was lost if the then owner didn't register it again at the time the DLVA records were computerised. Applying to the DVLA for the car's records will tell you what the original number was and when/why is was given its current number.

Just for idle interest the prefixes SU, SV, SK, DS,YJ and VS are also age related.

Laugh I wish.

You need to download a form from their website (or pick up from a Post Office). I think the form is a V888.

You'll need to give the reason you want the info and send a cheque for £5.
