Its been a while but there has been progress! honest, Had a year off really last year as had a health problem and there seemed like more important things in life at the time, anyway back on it now and made bit of progress lately.

Doors stripped and new bottoms welded in, now in primer

Rear valance was goosed around the bottom so bought I bought a later one as I couldn't justify the price for a 'H' valance, cut the 'H' insert and welded it into the later one.

I'll try and keep up with the updates now things are back to normalish Blushing

Great work!
The guy who did the bonnet certainly knows his stuff
I have an identical car (in the same condition) festering in the corner of a barn.
This may be the inspiration i need to get on with it!

Just found this on a hubcap in a big box of bits I got with the car must never have been fitted. It says Original VW tested spare part.

Found 4 of these in a box as well apparently original oval accessories, I may have a go at restoring these.

Love the metal work, coming along nicely.
I had the same thoughts about the H apron.
When I get to my Oval, I'll post some pictures.

This really is a fascinating project, and not for the fainthearted.

Any recent progress?

I have fell behind with the updates badly, I have had trouble with photobucket as well. I will try and update soon, Got loads done since the last update, so here goes for starters.
The rear quarter internal frames were rotted out and replacement clips are non existent so nothing for it but to fab some up myself.

The engine is not the original which is a shame but on the plus side it is a 1954 30hp out of a barndoor split.

Replaced the barrels , pistons and valve guides, checked and cleaned and is now a runner

Now 99% complete, All done by myself apart from the bonnet that required a wizard to get that back in shape, still 6v, with a new wiring harness made up from copying the original, non original items for safety as my better half will be driving it most of the time are indicators in conjunction with the semaphores, dual circuit brakes and lap belts fitted. It has certainly been a journey and I have learnt masses.
