Lets make a overview of all the existing Dannenhauer & Stauss.

From some D&S owners I heart that they have a list of known cars. Currently 18 examples are known of with 13 of them are drivable/restored.

2 * 1951
2 * 1952
11 * 1953
3 * 1954

The wish of a lot of owner is to remain anonymous, what is logical. I respect this wish, so will provide no names, but only the country were the car is located.

Who can add pictures of other cars to this list. (there are still 3 cars missing!!)

Split window cars:

1) 1951 Second D&S build, Silver, located in Suisse with its second owner

2) 1951 VW museum car (licence: AB CW 505 or WOB 051H)

3) 1952 White car from Austria (licence W BABY 50)

4) 1952 Black car located in the Netherlands:

5) 1953 Brown located in Germany (licence Fu DS53H)

Normal window

6) 1953 Sweden (licence UNIK53)

7) 1953 Was on show in HO 2005. (car located in Belgium)

8 ) 1953 Swiss car, licence SG 29809

9) 1953 Located in Germany (licence HD DS53H)

10) 1953 Famous car form the US.

11) 1953 restored by Lenny Copp, now collection of Flat4, Japan,

12) 1953 Located in germany (Licence SE 04438 and SE BJ53H)

13) 1953 Black car, located in the US

14) 1953 Green one with Suisse licence SG 115187, now in Australia

15) 1953 Was for sale in Germnay, will now go to the US.

16) 1954 Was for sale in Australia and stayed there.

17 ) 1954 Located in germany (licence HM 04583 and HM TG54))

1Cool 1954 owned by a coachbuild collector in the US

I always thought it was Dannenhauer & Stauss but often see it written with the 'r'...

In hessisch 2005 there were two D&S project cars.

What happened to the red one?
Is that now car with licence SE 04438 or SE BJ53H?

This pictured projectcar is the one that was restored, became brown and won a/the price at the latest HO meeting. A 4 year translation that is pretty impressive.

This might be a stupid question, but are they made of steel? I had always assumed they were aluminium like the Rometsch, but from that photo it looks like it has rust holes...

Rob, There are no stupid questions. Only the answers are mostly stupid.Exclamation
In this case you were right Wink with the rust holes...it is indeed made of steel.
Is that an answer on your question? Laugh
Rometsch, ghia angle, denzel and Drews were made of Alu as far as I know.Rest is steel.
Greets.

I am not sure. I have tried with a magnified iron on 5 of them in my garage and none of them could hold the magnet....Blink

Just kidding. No clue on them. At least one or two of them are made in iron.....the pick-ups.

Here some more prove that a D&S is made of metal.

they can rust !!
And it looks like they had to brake down a wall to get this car out.

For the record (from Paolo): Beutlers were built as Rometsches: Simple sheet metal steel structure, with aluminium outer skin.

let's not forget to include the forerunner of the Dannenhauer and Stauss... otherwise known as the Auto Technic

Some of my photos of it have been posted by Everett Barnes on theSamba... I am not positive that this is an Auto Technic... but it sure looks close.

I like that Auto Technic, even if it´s not quite as refined a design as the D+S. Whats the story? Is it restored by now?

Not mine, but it will eventually come to northern CA. Not sure if new owner wants to be known at this time, however.

Thanks for this link.
This was one of the four cars I couldn't find pictures from on the internet. It was also the only car I dodn't know the year. Now I know it is a 1953 build.

I updated the list in my first post.
Still, pictures of three cars to go!!

Interesting - congratulations LK!

Patrik: "The white car in Mexico" surely must be identical to number 19 on your list. No 19 was white and was in Mexico...came to Arizona in 1997...then on to North-eastern USA and became restored and burgundy.. There can not be two white Mexico-cars "in the world"...?
