Bought this early Karmann from Egypt. Like my heb it is registered as a 61, was orginally black, and will hopefully be loads of fun.

Went down to Yan's last week for some dinner, little did we realise what Yan was going to unveil...

Yes it's had a few updates over the years (including cool electric windows), but a lot of it's split roots remain- dash and windscreen surround, ribbed doors with ally window frames, transmission hatch, rear seat.., it's a great project for sure. Love to get my hands on this! Wink

Peter, I sent you an email for your registry but I do not know if it's a current email address. I don't have Claus' either.
We will supply you with any info we have but sadly we have not any interesting numbers to give you. Chassis no currently 3754096.
The boys ripped it up and deduced the following:
1) Originally was black.
2) Early example(49 or 50?) due to shape of aluminium window surrounds.
3) Electric windows in doors not factory fitted item.
Anyway, we had a great evening we will remember.
Thanks to Rob Amos, Kevin Maddock & Nicolas Carr-Forster.

Best wishes to you and Claus.

But Yan...tell us: How did you get it out of Egypt? Did you actually go there with the cash or did you do it via the internet, sort of? Amazing that you actually got it out and about - look forward to seeing it. It really goes well with your Hebmuller.

Oystein, we plan to use the car. Now the children are getting older it's getting tight in the heb and they can be very naughty. And it's good for the heb, she was getting lonely in the garage.

No, not 5, just 2. That's tricky enough!
Not as tricky as getting the car out of Egypt with a civil war going on. But I had a contact in Cairo and someone flew out with the hard currency. It's all done in cash there, and that's what the vendor wanted. Quite a delicate transaction actually.

Thanks Claus,
I bought the car for the Hebmueller fraternity actually, it's THE car that was finally going to make the Hebmueller rarer than the early Karmann.
There are now, thanks to this car, more Type 15 than Type 14.
Can you confirm that is correct please?
Many thanks,
Yan

Hi Yan,
you are right! You made all KARMANN verts to "common cars" again Wink
Your car will make me some work. I have to make a new registry point for "original KARMANN without numbers" like on my Hebmüller Registry site. Please find a number for me...than I don´t have to do this job Cool
There are about three other new KARMANN verts in the pipeline (inklusive the second oldest KARMANN vert from 49!). I´m just waiting for the numbers. For a new unknown Hebmüller is it too quiet this time Sad

Cheers Beer
