have just stripped my '65 1200 engine due to a "funny noise" and found the block which retains the rocker shaft smashed in half, does anyone know where i could get one from or even have one lying around from an old engine????

Check to see if the block has a O-seal between it and the head. If it does then a block from any later engine will fit. Megabug can probably help if you can't find one local.
