I'd buy this car at the drop of a hat.

Bet you'd rather have a nice shiny Oval DeLuxe though

Why have you got such a thing about shiny cars, John? My old 51 Standard which you now have is nice and shiny, isn't it? Even though it has patina...:d

You have to admit that this looks rather cool, and its a DeLuxe too, but more rust than patina though 😎  2558598.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

I love the colour and it is not over shiny. In fact it looks about the right level of finish for a post 47 split-window VW

I've owned it a few years now, refraining from polishing it other than a wipe-down with rain water and a leather – (not tap water), so the paint has dulled a little over time

I do love the satin/semi matt finish most of all, but this belongs more to the early post-war (pre '48 cars) in general. However, this hasn't stopped me putting my '50 Standard into a semi-matt finish 😎

So do you have a rain butt or do you wait for it to rain to wash your cars?
Cos' i don't think that stuff falling out the sky, in a city like London, is too clean.

True, but it seems to leave nicer finish than the London tap water :?

Yes, it was great. As usual, Paula applied her magic mechanical touch to make it reliable and roadworthy. Someone had taken the rear piece of tinware out previously and I couldn't believe the difference it made to the running of the engine when we put it back in! Taillights were from Owen, since there were oval ones on and terrible huge round orange indicators on the wings which were all removed to recreate the correct look from the back. The front wings were also wrong so Paula provided me with some from an old Oval of hers. The blanking plate was missing so I put an unmolested one in.

Lovely car though, originallyfrom Northeim in Niedersachsen.

hehe... no, he won't. 😳 He's restoring it to its original specs, before he'll begin the restoration of his barndoor. And yes, he lives in the French Alpes.

He shouldn't come to Hessisch, but... Maybe next year to Le Mans Classic... :d
