Hello Guys,
does someone know which was the oldest Kübelwagen ?
I am just restauring a Kübel with chassis number 66 and it was built 1940. The people say it is now the oldest VW form Wolfsburg ( they started building beetles 1942 and the KDF beetle in the factory museum was made in Stuttgart.
It has a lot of prototype stuff ( doors,..). The metal is very good because it was found 1998 in Lybia.
Who has also a 1940 Kübel or photos ?
Bye Christian

I have been reading!
1000 units built in 1940 from March.
The earliest kubels I have found so far are from 1941

Your 1940 looks very solid, a great addition to your collection.

Congratulations! 😎

Christian, surely chassis 66 isn't early enough for your collection?

Good work finding that one.

Hi,
I asked a local friend who is a highly regarded UK Schwimmwagen restorer, he keeps details/no's of known UK Schwimmers but not Kubels, however he says no.400 is living in SouthUK, and is regarded here as early, however not nearly early enough to fall into the prototype group that would have been inside the first hundred, if he digs out anything earlier I will post. Will be popping in to his workshop this week sometime to stroke 2 Schwimmer pussycats under resto and his '40 Stoewer jeep. 😃
