An alternative is to take a hot air feed from the left heat exchanger, this was done on some fresh air (post '63) cars but I'm not too sure as to the dates. I imagine in some ways this would give superior preheat in the early moments of running.
This is one type of exchanger I've seen, with the heat outlet in a similar position to stale air '60-'63 cars.
It will work with the doghouse, it seems.
I've simply poked my preheat pipe (some garden pond hosing) under the little bits of barrel tin, and it's held on there with a cable tie. It worked beautifully all winter, but is not pretty and I'll do it properly next time the engine is out.
