Hi all

Wonder if anyone can help my RHD 53 passenger door I cant seem to lock it at all,generally pulling the handle up would lock a door however mine will not lock.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Mark,
Have you had the door panel off and checked out all the linkages are connected inside? That's the only reason I can think that it won't lock. Will the handle open the door if you push it forward?

I've looked into all that,my drivers door has the locking type lock on it it has been suggested basically they had not changed this round from a LHD set up at that point?.

Anyway now i've got a keyed locking handle on the passenger side and a non lock handle on the drivers side.:d

I didn't know there were any differences in the latch mechanisms, only the door handles, but i presume that the mechanisms can be changed over. Just in case yours are broken there are some on ebay at the moment:

I was once told that some RHD VW's came over with the locking handle on the left door and they were changed over by the dealers. Terry Allens very original 54 still has the locking handle on the passenger side and that car is about as untouched as they get.
