hi, i have a 59 bug and my 30hp engine gave up the will to live this weekend, im on the lookout for another to replace it, but was wondering if any other engine will fit in (still on 6 volt) i dont want to make any alterations to the body work in the engine bay and i always presumed the later engines were physically larger?

Mate any 1200cc should go in so long as it has a 6v flywheel.

I will not mention it but isn't your car lowered 😳 :lol:

Yes the later '61 and on, 34hp 1200 has a slightly larger case but nothing that will cause fit problems. If you fit the stale air 34hp engine not only do you get a better crank than the 30hp but you'll find it easy to fit a big bore kit to up the capacity to 1390cc.

That way you get to keep the vintage look with a nice little boost in hp. True, there are old farts who'll tell you the engine not right for the year but having slammed the bug I'm guessing you don't give a s**t about them anyway.:wink:

i had my engine rebuilt by laurie in the end, got it back last week and fitted it yesterday, im over the moon, and a lovely day for taking it out for a spin:d
