I´ve seen a fair few old German movies with VWs in them. A Lawrence Rometsch in one IIRC.
You need to get "Heimatkanal" to see all these films, but it can be an ordeal sitting through some of them I can tell you! `50s and `60s German movies about wholesome life in the mountains, hunting shooting and singing. But mostly just singing. They are apt to keep breaking into song - entirely unprovoked - at the drop of a (resplendantly feathered hunting) hat!!

There is a film starring a famous old time comedian called Heinz Ehrhardt which heavily features a black Beetle Cabrio.
