60 yr Commemorative Type 2 Tour 2010,
South Island, New Zealand

(for the trip of a life-time with the love of your life)

Greetings fellow VW’ers from the Central South VW Club.

This is the first of the planned emails we will be sending to all of you who have expressed an interest in our South Island tour in 2010; thank you for your responses.

We were very encouraged when we received a large number of enthusiastic replies (mostly from people in the other island) immediately after we sent out the initial details to the Volkswagen Clubs.
The list presently numbers around 40 interested people, and with this significant level of support we have embarked upon the commitment to make the tour a reality; our planning is underway, and we will soon be expanding our advertising of the event.

To re-cap on the basic details, we envisage the following: -
the tour will commence from Nelson on Easter Monday 5th April, at the conclusion of the 2010 VW Nationals, and will travel inland to Hamner Springs; down the East Coast; inland to Aoraki Mt Cook; to Oamaru, Dunedin, through the Catlins to Invercargill; to Te Anau; Milford, through Central Otago; the West Coast and back to Christchurch.
This will be limited to a period of 2 weeks, which is a shorter time than we actually need, however, as most participants will be from the North Island, and who are likely to have already attended the Nationals as well, we have had to restrict the time frame.

Each participant will be provided with a daily travel plan with suggested places of interest to visit en route, and if any people want to spend extra time at these places, or visit other places, they will be able to catch the rest of the group at the night’s stop-over. In most cases these will be a Top 10 Camping Ground, which have been pre-booked.
Some people may want to join/leave the tour at times/places which suit their own particular requirements.

It is too early to have any indication of the likely costs at this stage; however, the main expenses will obviously be accommodation, food and fuel.

We would like to emphasize the fact that anybody with any VW will be welcome to participate in this tour; it will not be restricted to type 2’s only, nor will it be restricted to people who are members of a Volkswagen Club.

We have a number of things under consideration, and we will email you with further updates as our planning progresses.
We look forward to keeping in touch on this matter and to enjoying a great South Island tour with you and your Volkswagen in 2010.
