There's a thread on theSamba about the new fake Hebs, I believe that Roger Dean is the guy behind this project - although these are Dirks panels shipped over to the US.

No need to call them "fake" Rob - that implies some kind of intent to decieve, which isn´t the case AFAIK.

I guess it makes sense for Dirk to build them in Europe and someone else to assemble them in the US...

AS you say, If there was no intent to deceive, it wouldn't matter how accurate it is to an original 14a.

A replica which costs as much, or more than the real thing is an odd concept to me.
I had lots of serious buyers interested in mine from all over the world but I'm not sure a replica would have the same appeal to these people.
Supply and demand does have an impact to some extent but for that money, I'd wait (like I did!)

How many people who own rare Porsches would consider buying a replica which was more expensive than a real one?

A fibreglass kit is another matter. Looks similar at a fraction of the cost!

In fact I´d say that its as true to the definition of "replica" as you could possibly make (aside from being Oval based).

My admiration to people who design and (re)produce Hebmuller spare parts and specially body parts is huge!!
For me no problem as long as those parts are used to restore or repair after an accident!
But please ... to build a complete car!
Didn't Dr. Frankenstein do the same with a dead body to create something new?
It did not look very nice either did it?[-x

 ET

Its a d(octor) d(irk) hebmuller or a w.c. hebmuller
but it is not and it will never be a VOLKSWAGEN HEBMULLER!

Hi,
I whould suggest that if they put a number in the front of the car thsy start with 14-02001 and make a Aufbautag with the name of Dr D instead of Hebmuller.
To avoid that they are claimed to be originals.
And to avoid that one day there is found a real one  with the same VIN or body nr of the one they are going to use?
I will look forward to know what nr they will use.

I have no problem with the recreation of a body , or panels that look exactly like a Type 14A.
What if someone start making all the pannels to make an exact copy of a split?

I will also look forward to Hessisch to speak to Dirk and Roger...
Because I will tell him some new details. SO for now , wait until June .

Greets.

I think that any 'new' car that is found from now on claiming to be a real Heb should be inspected before it's included in any registry, with these panels being so accurate it would be very easy to build a fake and pass it off as real - and then including it in a registry gives it an extra stamp of authority. Even with an inspection it may be hard to call...

I did think about that, but some 'real' hebs have lost their chassis number - also, a jpeg of a birth certificate would be easier to fake than the car!

Also, I'd like to add that I'm not anti-replica - I've often thought about trying to make a replica (fake) Heb, but if I did manage it then I know that it wouldn't be so accurate that people thought it was real, and I wouldn't park with the real ones either. 😎
