I requested the chassis number from the vendor but they haven't replied. It looks very post-'53 to me.

Looks like the chassis number is showing at the rear of the tunnel under the seat :?: :?:

1947 VWs had the number on the tunnel ahead of the gear lever stamped on a welded on plate:?
