From VZi...

Makes you sick, after the move this is what Barclay and Julie have to go through...

"just to let you know status has been broken into and everything stolen. so if you get offered seals at low prices its prob been stolen. or very rare parts

The break in was at our new premises. We would be most grateful if you could put details in your club newsletter and also inform the other clubs. A lot of the parts they took were what Barclay had bought for his 1951 at Bad Camberg and at Hessisch and are virtually unreplaceable and was keeping them all as spares. They took a very valuable speedo unit that he paid 1200 euros for and all sorts of NOS parts.
They have cleared us out almost of all kinds of seals, lenses, badges, and anything else you could name so any help would be much appreciated.

That's really awful news.

I'll give him a ring next week and try and find out the rarer parts that were taken.
I was with him when he bought the speedo in HO. He was well pleased to have found it!

I'm sure there's a very limited market for some of the stuff that was taken
so If the Vintage VW community are made aware of what to look for we might be able to help find out where everything went.

It would be really nice if they either couldn't sell this on or if someone was honest enough to trap the seller.

This dreadful situation was the main topic of conversation yesterday at the Busfreeze show at Stafford. It seems that most people have now heard about it and that's great because there is such a wide network of VW enthusiasts out there that should sudden sales activity appear on ebay or on other sites then its sure to be noticed by people who know where the parts may have come from.
Not only were parts taken but the thieves also took Julie's black new beetle cabriolet.

If the person(s) responsible for this are found out, can they please be named and shamed on this forum.

I have a name for them at present, but certain words cannot be placed on a forum such as this

Rattletrap – the Volkswagen Beetle that has covered an incredible mileage equivalent to over 35 times around the planet :omg:
Running nifty since 1950… the King of Volkswagens:beer: Why not make friends with this famous little VW – he's on facebook!

That's disgusting, truly sorry to hear. It's always the nicest people who get shafted like this.

The perpetrators cleaned them out out of the new stock as well as this list of NOS Split parts. Rubbers, lenses, bearings everything. Sooner or later someone is going to be offered some of this stock.

A message from Barclay...

"Dear VW Friends,

Following our break-in last week, we wanted to write a note to everyone who has been helping and supporting us so much over the last few days, so thought a reply to the forum posts would be the quickest and easiest way to reach so many people.

The scene that greeted us a week ago was one of utter devastation. When realisation quickly came and we worked out we had been robbed, the emotions were understandably running high. Our New Beetle Cabriolet was the large obvious item that was taken and it was clear that stock had also been taken. After the Police and Forensics had been in, we started the clear-up and have been working on the stock lists to ascertain exactly what items have gone. Upto now, we have accounted for over £60,000 worth of stock and my collection of rare NOS vintage parts worth over £10,000 has also gone.

As news spread quickly over the internet and forums, we have been inundated with emails and calls from people offering their help and support to us in any way they can and we have really been touched by the generosity of the VW scene and the speed in which so many people have helped us. Its you, the VW scene that make this industry what it is and we really wanted to say a huge 'THANK YOU' to everyone who has offered their help and support and those of you who are avidly watching Ebay and the Samba for our things to appear.

Our suppliers are also being very helpful in getting orders to us from Germany within 2 days and from America within 3 days. We are still open for business, but if you have orders that you need quickly, please order as much in advance as possible so we can replenish stock of anything that we are now missing.

On a positive note, we are also now starting the construction of our new showroom and museum and hope to have this opened early in the New Year. We really look foward to welcoming you to our showroom but you can still call to collect items even now before the showroom is opened - check out our website for our address details in Warwickshire.

We would be really grateful if you could copy this post onto other forums that you may be members of on our behalf. Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing many of you at the shows in 2010 or here in our showroom.

Best wishes,

Barclay & Julie Stainton
