Can somebody tell me what's the best way to clean out a slighty rusted petrol tank of a beetle?

Hello Guido,

I know that old guy living next door to you and I know what happened last year to him and his “tractor” Porsche! In fact the petrol tank of his “Porsche” was a little bit rusty too and was healed (read repared) in the same way as you dicribed before!!!
I will not speak in details because it is too painfull but one thing I have to say to you. I think it is more save to buy that NOS petrol tank than to "cut open" the old one!!!

OK there is a time for fun but serious now!!!

Till now you still are not one of the most reliable people I met on the Vintage Volkswagen world but THE most reliable person I ever did business with!!!
Compared to other “so called” Belgian VW specialists (and there are a few overhere in Belgium) you are correct in handeling people, honoust and a man of your words!!!

Hi Rob,

I have cleaned some thanks in the past !!
I put (white) petrol in the tank ( fill it for 50 % ) and the other 45 % are small stones ( Gravel, pebble's) !
After That I put the tank on my special designed machine , I don't know what the name is in English :oops: , But in Flemish it is a betonmolen :wink: !!
You know those machine's used for making concrete !! I put the machine in the back of my garden and let it do the work for a few hours ! I'm happy with my neighbours because they don't complain about that !
The tanks are like new inside after this expencive restoration job :lol:
I never put a product in them after cleaning them, The only thing those tanks need is a dry storage or filled with fuel, thats the best way , to keep them clean, never put a car in the garage for a year with a empty tank, you'll have problems when you take your car back on the street !!

I like to buy a hebmuller, but I don't have the money, that's what I call a problem! I always help you with your problems, can you help me out with my problem ?? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! I think I maybe know a Heb. I say maybe because I don't know if it's a real Heb as I haven't seen anything. I just heard the rumour that it's somewhere in a carcollectors garage and I don't know if it's true and if so if it's for sale but hey, who knows... 😎

Now serious. It is painful to me that I can not go to that German place wednesday but I have seen a pict and it is a shame to cal it a heb.
If you go you probably meet some other well known people and friends of me. A million Bfr for a VW beetle from the 70 s with a hebdecklid and hoodframe grafted on (so called Heb )is way to much money even for somebody who wants really one.

Hello Peter,

When you say you saw already a pic of the car and it lookes really the way you discribed before I don’t think there are going to be much people who are going to bid Euro 25.000,- for the remains of that “would be” Hebmuller :!:

I can see a real Heb in my garage but I don’t look to it every day. This coming thuesday night or Wednesday morning we are going to make a 7 hours lasting trip to problaly see a fake one! Totally crazy!
