Anyone know of any good online resources/tutorials for restoring split dash speedo pods?

To restore the dark brown (standard model) bakelite base? I found that some polishes actually make it rougher. Then I got a tip from an antique collector - OLIVE OIL - the sort of stuff you cook with or put in salads. Having ensured the bakelite is clean (wash with soap and water and dry thoroughly), just put a little olive oil on a clean cloth and wipe it over - job done! Mine came up like new. I don't know if this works on the white deluxe items. I thought they were painted?

And a solution for the white bakelite ones?
They are almost all cracked.
