Forum has been fairly quiet recently, I 'think' because there's just not much going on in vintage circles. The summer has been a washout, so not much happening show wise, now we're heading for winter again.

Anybody got any ideas on how to give it a kick and get things moving again?

I did start a thread when I started work on my 53 but if it's a case of either working on my car or being sat at a pc or iPad ,I would sooner be in the garage.i am taking pictures but I don't seem to get the time to post as much anymore.Obviously I still visit the site but the pure vintage side of the scene Is the limiting factor for me as I do have an interest in modified cars as well.
Oh ,and the wife wants the decorating doing as well.

Still a few shows left ,maybe someone can report ?

i am part of other forums, and have even built one.

i find that build threads help move websites along and get people talking!

plain and simple this forum needs more of them. i started a thread on here when i started restoring my 67, as i thought it would get people talking and was surprised at the lack of traffic.

theres at least a couple of members on here i know who are building cars, but havent started build threads

without lots of activities, you wont get the traffic on the forum, and itll just become boring.......maybe its time i started another resto

I agree that the summer has been a total washout, and will have contributed to many members not putting much on here. It's been very wet here in south west Scotland for ages.

I'm restoring a '57 sunroof, and hope that once work is progressing faster than it is just now,I'll put some pictures up. My car is eighty miles from home, so I've been busy travelling up and down to help work on it.

Not really an excuse, I know, but I regularly check in to see what's happening here.

Gavin.

I like the idea of a build threads section, what do others think?

The only problem I see is that for example Marks Ascort thread is currently in the 'other coachbuilt' forum - should this come out of their and go into a builds section? or is it better that it's in its current place?

i think the forum format is fine, and people just need to stop being lazy and post up build threads in the relevant sections 😛

personally barclays thread/blog is the best thing on here at the moment

if people dont input, the forum will die..........use it people! dont lose it!

Actually I think it is a good idea. Otherwise you´ll only find build threads by chance when browsing other stuff. And I like to read build threads.

Firstly, I think the website needs to clearly state its purpose, a mission statement if you like, and eventually this should appear on the home page. I have read that this website can develop, within the overall pre67 VW subject, as members wish; unfortunately, in my view, this is, in large part, why it has ended up as quiet.

Secondly I think there should be a clear statement as to why the website wants to be busier.

I do have some ideas to make it busier, subject to knowing the answers to the foregoing, but feel it a waste of time to post them at the moment.

Interesting comments!

Mission statements are difficult to do without getting cheesy, plus I don't really like all that marketing crap. It's purpose is to represent and promote the vintage side of the hobby.

It can and does develop as people suggest, but its not a democracy, I have to like the idea first.

A statement on why I would like it busier... Basically as Robb says above, if it's not busy then people drift off to other places and it dies.

Yeah, I like the idea as well. Maybe I could create a new 'builds' section but leave the current builds where they are unless I get asked to move them by the thread owners?

It already says "Stock, coachbuilt and oldspeed" up there. Tells you what you need to know doesn´t it?

There´s always the post 67 section idea.... again! (Yeah yeah, I know, it´s a pact with satan himself)

I would think that a very high percentage, if not 100%, of people in the hobby have been influenced to be involved, whether they can recall it or choose to admit it,by vw marketing somewhere along the line, lesson for this website surely?

"Stock, coachbuilt and old speed" says it all? Well no it does not as anyone who regularly visits the forum will know. More importantly google does not think so. Search those words in any combination and in any combination with vw and/or volkswagen and this site does not come up on the first three pages.
Search vintage and vw and there this site is top of the listings; but perhaps the use of the word vintage, outside of its wider definition, is a discussion for another time. David

Agreed. I've asked for this before, a poll was conducted and that was that. It still has to be worth a try, it won't speed up the death of this site, and will possibly increase activity. I suggest keep the name as pre67vw. Just add a last forum for post 1967 air-cooled Beetles and also one for TypeIIs. This could be titled as 'a discussion for members with post 1967 air-cooled vehicles', or something like that. Nobody will die as a result of this, and pre67vw may live on for a long time:!:

Rattletrap was a great thread, causing a lot of stir and comments for and against. Lots of activity at the time as I recall - a busy time on these forums.

Then there's Last Triumph's really, really good thread on the recommissioning of his barn find 1957 Beetle. There are other good threads too, but where to find them?

I suggest a new section 'Feature Topics' to go before the pre1953 section. This could be where all the best threads are placed for people to browse. It is something that could be implemented and filled straight away, although, I realise that this would be a time user for Rob to sort through and organise.

At present when a newcomer views the forums he/she first launches into the pre53 thread as its at the top. For a start it is for the more specialised hard core old VW fan. When they open this the first thing they see (at present) is a post, which is in the wrong place, and is rather unfriendy in the poster's manner, with nonsense posts following it as a result.

First impressions as they say...

 Agreed, although I have a deep intrest in pre67 VW's I was lucky to recently acquire a 1975 1300 Beetle which has been one family owned from new and completley stock and unrestored, I can't post about it on this site due to the restrictions on age. I believe a post 67 stock section would attract new members and open discussion, I undertsand many will disagree but thats my opinion.
