I'm just building up a 1956 oval beam and it needs new outer bush/bearings...

The fiber type.. I've been all over trying to get them...

Where can I get them? Some seem to think the later metal bearings will fit.. others say the K&L beams changed in 1960 so the late bearings wont fit the early beams...

Any thoughts or knowledge?

THANK YOU

Yeah, I know that King and link are different to Ball Joint. But I'm being told that King and link pin beams changed in 1960... some say they are ok, and the outer bushes fit them all (king and link) and some same the K&L beams changed.. or was it just the outer bushes/bearings that changed?

Wolfsburg west list them as being the same through to '65.

1960 Beetle, starting at chassis # 2921552 were the first to have a roller bearing (46mm dia) which fits upper torsion arm for 1966-1977 ball joint beams.

Exactly.. so they should be the same and I should be able to fit roller bearings.. but nearly everyone else (except heritage who say the "late" bearings will fit early cars) say i cant..

.. but will they fit a 56 beam?

I've had a few places like machine 7 etc say I cant and KK say they have nothing to do the job..

I should update this thread.

The King and link pin metal Bearings do not fit in the early beam where the original early "solid" bushes were ... they are about 1mm too large for the ends of the beam. Question has been answered.

The early beam has the same inner and outer solid bearings (so 8 of them in total)

I gave up and used a 1960 onwards K&L beam on my '56
