What a good start this is for someone with good hands-on skills but with a low budget. Good history, and a rare model to boot.

This car is indeed a very worthwhile project. Good price, but I'd have to pay out for a lot of the work to be done. A car worth around £15-20k when done I'd say, great financial potential for the complete DIY owner.

That didn't hang around for long. I can see why, it has great potential.

It looked from the pictures that the car was dismantled with work underway:?:

The rebuild was underway to make a Cal Looker, big motor etc. As I remember it had a later floorpan and late frame head and narrow beam. All of which could be reversed. The car has had many owners since and none have got very far, the only thing that seems to happen is the price rises each time the car is sold.

By today's standards for such an unusual car the price hasn't risen a lot. But then as you said, its not one for the faint-hearted. When you see some of the real basket case '40s Splits that actually get to be a complete running car you realise that there is some real talent and grafters around that could save this car.
