An old friend of mine in Sweden got in touch with me earlier to see if I knew anyone who'd be interested in a little gem he owns, along with his brother. Knowing the demand for unmolested Splits, especially the earlier ones, I said YES! as I knew there would be someone here in England who'd snap it up.
This is what my friend told me; 'It has been in the same family since new, father then son and he stopped driving it in 1979. The body is fairly good with minor visible rusted areas. It still has grooved bumpers still on it, grooved correct semaphores, 16" wheels, 25 horse engine with T-shaped air cleaner. The Interior is useable, but not perfect.'
I am waiting for more details and he is taking loads of photos this weekend, but I have posted the two he has sent me so far. He was going to put it up on the Samba - but I told him to hold fire as i thought it'd be great if I could hook someone up in the UK with the car of their dreams. I'm sure you are going to want to know what sort of money it will be, so more good news... It's only going to be £12,500. And obviously you'll need to factor in collection from Jönåker in Nyköping, Sweden.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, it's a Pastel Green Deluxe with what appears to be original paint - with really good 'patina', for those who are into that sort of thing... It'd probably be thought of as Swedish Royalty.

Obviously, as it has not been used since 1979, it's going to need recommissioning work and as Last Triumph will tell you this could be a fare bit of work. However, it's a complete and correct car and from the sound of things would make a fabulous basis for a restoration.

If you are serious about buying it - you are welcome to contact me, but please take into account the fact I am doing a friend a favour, and you at the same time, I have made it clear it's not my car and I am not earning a penny out of the sale (although a 'drink' for the tip-off would be welcome!) so I do not need to be wasting my time talking to anyone who simply likes walking up the garden paths of cloud cuckoo land. However, I'll do whatever I can to help you if you are seriously looking for a what is basically a two owner Split that has never been got at.  1081162_430879623691209_198741619_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  1186245_431853263593845_376995220_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

Cars like this in that part of the world seem to often turn up in classified ads like this (UK Car and Classic site for example). I think here in England people are put off, whereas similar in Belgium turn up and are easier to get home.

I've got a load of photos of the car now and a lot better description.[img][/img] It's a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I have more pics which I will send to people who are seriously interested in buying it. Once you're sure you are sure, I'll pass on the owner's info. So here's the skinny; The car was sold new in Nyköping. Built in February 1951, but registered in Sweden as a 1950. Two owners since then, father and son. Has been up for storage since 1979, first inside a shed, then outside under two covers. The car has been jacked up all the time.
Tires are Avon 5.00x16", bought new just before laying the ca. Engine is original 25 horser, has been turned over round every now and then to keep it from seizing-up.
Original crashbox transmission was replaced in the 60's in favor of a semisyncromesh trans from 1956. Front right hand side wing was even replaced after a small dink, so new wing from an Oval.
Things that are not period perfect, broke or missing is:
Gearbox (obviously) Oval-era front wing, bonnet trim is missing, left tail light glass is cracked. Inside: rear domelightglass cracked (parts are there but...). It has slightly newer wiper arms (as you can see in the photos), front mouldings has been trimmed down as it had mirrors mounted. The rear wings shows some rust in the outer lips, exhaust system has been modified with what looked like plumbingpipes (!) , Running boards are Oval-era, headlight lenses were changed to later style after Sweden started driving on the righthand side of the road. There's a small hole in the front scuttle for screen washer nozzle. Floor carpets are there but... Interior has some splits in the fabric and will need cleaning if they're not replaced.
The pictures says alot of the car's condition. The owner tells me they have not tested the wiring or test-started the engine, the brakes are also stiff after years in storage. However, it is rolling and the handbrake is working. The buyer/restorer will need to sort these things out.

It's a genuine car being sold by a genuine bloke - who I have known for 20 years plus. And, in my opinion, it's not expensive.  10882_433105596801945_209981710_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  543428_433104916802013_540662508_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  970689_433094930136345_2106705018_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  994582_433101426802362_1807418815_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  994889_433095640136274_522417462_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  999110_433095313469640_1831018283_n.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

Finding a car such as this 30 years ago would have been really something, so its amazing that cars as original as this, now well over 60 years old still turn up. Its great that Ivan has put it onto this stock forum, so let's hope that a Stocker buys it.

However, as seems to happen to many of these survivor cars, it'll probably end-up lowered, with old '50s junk piled on the roof and with silly wheels.:thumbdn:

Cheers John, I thought it was best to try and help a friend out and help get the right new owner for the car, someone who'd understand and appreciate what it is. Despite what some people may think, it's nothing like as easy as it was 15 years ago to find cars like this in Sweden. It is still probably the best country to find one, mainly due to the amount that were laid up in in the late 60's and early 70's, but like I say, unmolested originals are a lot thinner on the ground.,

12 years?! That either means time has flown passed at supersonic speed or I really am getting old. In reality, it's probably something like that. And I would agree, the '49 Harvey found for you is one of the most amazing original cars.
Hope all is well in John's world. Are you still addicted to Routemasters?

Yes indeed Ivan, it is 12 years - frightening!

More frightening is that I have owned the '49 for over 28 years. More interesting to many is that during that time it has remained mainly unused as it was during the years before I acquired this one-owner car.

Yes I still like Routemaster buses (its the Londoner in me). Mine is a 1961 model so fairly early of the type. She has been put back to full 1961 spec, with all the features that were removed and replaced with modern parts over the years by London Transport reinstated. All 64 seats retrimmed to 1961 spec - and we think its a problem retrimming a Beetle!

Thanks Ivan. I've had some different vehicles but nothing seems to get the attention and street photographs that this bus gets. Its parked up at the local Transport museum at present, and by their own reckoning say its a very popular exhibit indeed.
