Given that it's not possible to find the correct part,
which would you go for on a Coachbuit VW?

A part which fits, works fine, but is not the correct part for the age of the vehicle?

or

A reproduction part which looks correct but is brand new?

:? :?

What would you prefer on your car?

Hello Malc,

I am going for the part that fits but has not the correct age!!!
For a deck lid of a Heb no problem I would say!!!
The model did not change in the few years Hebmullers were produced!!!

But if the deck lid of your Heb is missing I would try to buy a metal repro!!!
Atleast if I didn't had to rob a bank to do so!!!

Otherwise a cheaper polyester one  :? would be a good alternative to buy!!!

 ET

I usually think that incorrect is better than repro, depending on the part. Its better to have something incorrect but a genuine part from the coachbuilt company, rather than something correct that was made in Japan last month.

What about a genuine VW part from a slightly later model or a new reproduced part which looks spot-on?

depends on the part, if it stands out as being very wrong then a repro part. If not then genuine.

I'd rather see repro grooved bumpers on a split than genuine 1303 ones. But a real Heb badge from a DKW would be better than a correct repro one...

Are you jalous you still did not find your real cheap Hebmuller?
When you ask me its better to have a nice and correct repro of an original than that you have one of "another" car that Hebmuller once produced! 😎

Are you trying to tell me that you found a real cheap real Hebmuller than?
If that's the case: congratulations!
But don't put a DKW badge on it, that looks cheap! :?
You better bought a nice repro from me when you had the chance!!! 😎
