Oh and george i finally have a good pic of my turbo, i know you hate it but at least you will see the quality of my work. The escort was 20 times worse than my 49' so lets hope the finnished result is also 20 times better than my escort.  6257.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

George,

Don't you know anything about RS Escorts ???

Lee,

Right, there's a guy called Brian Burrows, he frequents the VolksZone site a lot. He used to own a 49 standard in bordeux red. He has since sold the car but he may have some pictures of it. I don't know how you would contact him but trying on volkszone may help. Whether he has any information that you may be able to use, I don't know. Whether he'd appreciate you contacting him, again I don't know.
secondly, Jules on this site knows him. I would suggest you ask Jules whether it would be a good idea first. I don't think there would be as he seems a genuine enough guy, but rather than upset the applecart....

If I'm in the wrong to give out somebody's name that may be able to help, then let me know as I don't know if it's the done thing or not. I'm only trying to help.

Oh sorry please accept my apologies for my last post, just thought it was a good pic to show my work, was taken in my garden so hopefully ill get a similar pic of my 49, i can just imagine it there with the sun shining through the rear window 😃

Ive finally finished building my new workshop and spray booth and decided to give the shell the once over to decide where the hell im going to start with it!? i noticed a strange buldge on the front of the roof. it is where the rear view mirror goes. it looks like a factory pressing but something tells me it shouldnt be there? it is about 3/4" high and 1" in width, and buldges out 1/8"? The nearest thing i can match it to in terms of shape and size is a well used bar of soap?

i cant get a decent pic of it at the monent so hopefully you will know what i mean from this borrowed pic. I have circled the area in question.  6259.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

thanks sdv i will contact jules first. im sure the ex owner wont mind you giving names. None of us would get anywhere without recomendations and contacts. My way of thinking is its quite nice for people to give your name, generally means u have someones respect or admiration. or in my case after my escort pic lots of steer clear of him/looser! anyway thanks again.

Im so excited about my 49, im sorry if you guys are getting annoyed with my demand for pics, but as i said im only 23 so i really dont have a clue when it comes to knowing what vintage vws look like?

Anyone thought about my buldge yet?

It is meant to be there Lee.
It's the location for the top mount of a centre-mount aerial, which is the standard location for a radio aerial on a split beetle.

The bottom mounts to the middle of the scuttle where the winscreeen washer nozzle would be on a latter bug, and the aerial runs up the middle of the windscreen.

Like this...

Ok thank you for that, i thought it looked like a pressing rather than a accidental dent. Cant say ive ever seen an aerial in the middle though.. T

Thank god someone banned those ford pictures

Lee,
That picture you've found of '49 STD', that's Brian's car I mentioned. It was part of the mini convoy we had to Bad Camberg in 1999. Well worth a look if ever you get the chance.

BTW Was it ever featured in volksworld ? Secondly, is John Maxwell's '49 a standard or a delux ?
