Anyone know if the rear lights wiring loom(s) on an October '53 should be vinyl-coated or that aluminium conduit stuff that's on split Beetles?

Thanks!

Hey Dave,

Since they stopped using cloth wiring harnesses with zwitters, I guess (!) vinyl only.
This steel braided enforcement was to protect the cloth from heat in the engine compartment and exhaust if you'd ask me.
So you're safe using white/beige (!) vinyl for your backlights IMO.

Thanks Peter.

I've had one reply for vinyl (Peter) & one reply for aluminium-armoured. Can anyone with a late '53 confirm which it should be?

Cheers.

I just had a conversation with an "hounest" German friend who has several "original cars in his collection!
I asked him what kind of cables were used on the tail lights of a 1953!
He told me that the back light cables on his original 1953 oval were made out of P.V.C., better known as plastic!!!:omg:
Another dilemma for poor Dave!
2 - 2 again!!!

I like that!!!

Nobody? :?
So I suppose more than 50% of the pre 53 Beetles are driving around with the wrong set of cables on the tail lights!?!:omg:

Dave, can it be that the aluminium wrapped cable was used as long as they used cloth wire looms? Because a wrapped wire isn't good water ressistent so they wrapped it with alu! When the PVC wiring loom was introduced the problem with that taillight wire was solved! So goodbye aluminium!
Does this make sence?
(easy with comments I bought something!!!)
