Take a look at this rare crotch-cooler ragtop 😮

The price is low – but you'll see why 😞

Those crotch coolers look pretty poorly welded in to me.
The thing appears a total fake, but it probably says that, but German is one of the two languages i don't speak.

I think it scares John because it reminds him too much of my car:lol:
Seriously, if it wasn't for the smaller sized front windscreen, I'd really take it for an early square window.
George, I don't think it's the welding seam of the crotch coolers that you see but where the whole dashboard was replaced. You can see how the seam carries on up.
A lot of work ahead for any potential buyer!

That is a weird one but I think the small windscreen surround gives it away as a pre 57 at least. Something strange about it though...rear window and dash aside, it looks to have the correct RVM and has ribbed doors but has a 56 on petrol tank and isn't the heater control in the wrong place? Perhaps it's on a later pan too.

In any case, I think these types of hybrids should not be put back to how they left the factory as they represent a part of history of the Beetle and I bet there's not many of them left out there.

I'm not a sunroof fan, although its not overly shiny for a DeLuxe – would be for a Standard though (yes, Mr Shiny Standard)

More the problem of the split window and correct dash being missing:x

Is this the waste of an oval or the waste of a split?

Why do people keep doing this – had me looking though

Big window chassis, oval window body with part of a split mixed in, even the roof rack has had the treatment and who knows what else.

RHD though and looks the part for the non-purist (without that roof rack) 😛

I'm assuming that you don't mean Rattletrap who is also a black Zwitter that was advertised on the internet during 2009 😎

The other of course, the RHD one (below), was was advertised on a regular classic car site early last September.

I saw it there and posted the advert link on this forum which caused a nice scramble :d

Nearly correct – it was me that Mrs Levy sold Rattletrap to, but I had a real scramble to get it all the same, I'd have been gutted to miss that one. On occasion I would be parked-up next to Rattletrap at a VW show with my split, MRT308, and so I got to know Tony Levy rather well. I'd always wanted to own Rattletrap, the car had been a little special to me from my adolescent days (see in the Rattletrap thread). And the thing with a DeLuxe Zwitter is having the aluminum trim around the split window, particularly on a black car, makes the split window stand-out, the best looking back-end of all Volkswagens. So I can understand why you want a black Zwitter, and wish you luck in acquiring one. However, make sure it has not lost the rear window trim as some have 😎
