The attention of a man passing by my house while I had the gate open was caught by a glimpse of my old '58,
Rattytrap, and so stopped to ask about the car. When we got talking I allowed him through to see the car and then he also noticed
Rattletrap lurking further from view behind the bushes. He was intrigued when I told him how old both cars were and about
Rattletrap's mileage.
It turned out that he was a retired MOT tester with an 'anorak' knowledge of tyres. He looked closely at
Rattletrap's tyres and declared they were from 1985. I thought 30 year-old tyres - that's cause for concern:o
He then looked at the tyres on
Rattytrap and dated the front two from 1965 - fifty years old:omg:
It makes me realise that tyres are somthing we do not consider often enough. Just when are tyres too tired :?
Rattletrap – the Volkswagen Beetle that has covered an incredible mileage equivalent to over 35 times around the planet :omg:
Running nifty since 1950… the King of Volkswagens:beer: Why not make friends with this famous little VW – he's on facebook! :d
