Im trying to install my front hubs, but the bearings seem to be too tight to go the whole length of the shaft/spindle?
A friend of mine has told me they are always tight, and to guide them on with a hammer. i have done so with the spacer (see photo) but this is as far as it goes? My fear is that if i hammer them on they wont come off again, especially as i need to remove them later to install the brake shoe hardwear, (once ive found some)
the parts are from 'vw heritage' page 25, nos 4-12 in catalogue. they are >1965 so i cant understand why they wont fit?
I searched the samba, but all i found was a thread with two guys arguing the gramatical correctness over the description on roller bearings/ tapered and ball bearings
the second photo shows a line of of the parts.
Id also like to mention some of the old hubs i bought had the 'ball bearings' in them. the parts i have are tapered rollers in a casing. i assume this is just the modern equivalent of the old ball type and not that i have the wrong bearings, as they are labeled as >65.
Please help, im at a complete loss here...
