Does anybody have any idea where to find correct tire for splitted windows? I think that the originals ones didn't have any whitewalls . Do you know if Continental reproduces them?
Thanks

I thought they were 5.60x15? Or is that later bugs?

If you are after 5.60x15 Cross plys then most manufacturers still make them.

If you are looking for Radials then the closest conversions are either 155x15's or 165x15's

Unfortunately Continental ceased production approx 10 years ago.
I have 3 NOS continentals and am still looking for 2 more, just for that 100% factory originality.
If you do a google search for vintage tyres there are any number of suppliers.
I have Avon Tourist on my two cars and like them, have used them on one split or another for 25 years and never a problem.

Dodgy! Tyres don't last for ever, even if un-used. Legally, in Germany, you can't have tyres older than six years old on your car. Its courting disaster to use anything really old.

Sure a lot of vintage car owners in Germany take a lot of notice of that.
Eg.Christian's 1940's sand tyres on his Kubel.
One of those instances when a bit of common sense is needed.
A 20yr old tyre can be in better condition than a 20 week old tyre.I know the rubber will deterioate with age but the 3 i obtained where still in there grease proof wrapping and had been stored in perfect conditions.
I have had brand new tyres, that because i was skint at the time had to do,i braked hard one day and lost the car.Changed them all the next day - False Economy.

I doubt many people take much notice of it either, but there you go. If the cops wanted to get you for something, then they could.

I bet Christians KΓΌbel sees lots of serious road miles on those tyres.

Old tires are fine for the 100% factory look when the car is sitting in a museum, and many will doubtless be fine on the road. I'm just trying to raise a little awareness. They can go bad from just sitting around. Particularly from any exposure to UV or ozone from electric motors, apparently.

I don't recall seeing any official VW photos of split beetles with whitewalls, they didn't really start adding them to mid-late 50's and even then its was a US type thing. They would certainly look out of place on a '49 standard thats for sure.

Hey dont shoot all at once this is not "the s£@ba". I would never dream of having white walls on the 49! was just mearly asking a question. Its bad enough the only tyre size we could get for the aston were in white wall..so i turned them round, the white walls are on the inside πŸ˜ƒ

Hey george thought it post this picture 1 because if you take a quick glance at your 'avtar' picture above the background looks the same, 2 keeping on subject..white walls.  11925.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.
