Anyone run an oil temp guage? What sender do you use? What's a normal running temp for a stock engine?

Hi Rob,
I have a Motometer (3 in 1). Amps and fuel work.......oil temp don't:(
I do not know the sender type other than it fits in between the case and the normal oil pressure switch.

In my 'Bently' manual it states that the opening temp for the thermostat (bellows) that operated the throttle ring at the back of the fan housing was originaly 75 - 80 degs but was reduced to 65 - 70 from
engine no: 3930189.

Also; in the oil circulation section (technical data M-8 pge3) there is reference to correct oil pressure (SAE 20) with engine at 70 degs (158F) 2500 rpm

So I'd say normal running oil temp was around the 70 deg C mark.

Hope this helps

I use a VDO temp dipstick in all my VWs..

It measures the oil temp in the middle of the engine and not just the "cooler stuff" at the bottom...

The engine needs to be above about 82c to run efficiently...

I run mine upto 120c but some say 110 or 115 is a max...

I also reguarly run external oil coolers with mocal thermostats inline to make sure it doesnt over cool the engine..
